So, let's say in a world where SEGA actually had a brain, they decided that instead of making crappy 3D games with human relations, mutations and swords.... they actually listened to what their audience wanted and made a game that people would actually buy.

I personally think Sonic 4 would be awesome. If they took a leaf out of Capcom's book, and made an old style Sonic, but beefed up the graphics (ala Street Fighter IV), I think it would be a massive hit.

The thing that really annoys me is that everyone has this perception that Sonic is all about speed. Sure, the character is, but the original 3 games never really were. There were parts which were just "whoa", but for the most part it was just a normal speed platformer where you could go fast if you wanted to... but at a risk.

Totally agree, not just that with SF IV but Capcom also did bionic commando on psn, and that worked well too. They really should at least try, saying that didn't they have some games on the GBA and DS at some point where the levels were 2D. I'll have to check.

Day 1 purchase if they did that.

Having a MM9-style new game, but w/ Genesis graphics, might also be a neat idea.

They did, yes. However, they still attempted to "modernise" it, but giving Sonic a punch move. The art direction wasn't overly good in my opinion either. Having said that, people have said they are the best ones SEGA have made since the Mega Drive ceased to exist.

A classic style Sonic game would be fun but unnecessary. I would be curious as a Sonic fan, as long as they went with the Sonic 3 engine as opposed to the Sonic 1 engine (not having the spindash gets rather tedious sometimes.)

i own all sonic gams apart from secret rings and the other storybook one i hate them they killed it when he "came to our world"
